Ibuprofen.
For some odd reason i have found myself in various similar conversations today about the same subject - that of Ibuprofen. See, until a few months ago there was a limit of 32 tablets placed on the sale of Paracetamol as a way of dissuading those tempting suicide via an overdose. As a result of a new ruling, whether initiated by the EU primarily or the nation-state is both unknown to me and unimportant here, the same has been applied to Ibuprofen. Consequently, it is now law in this country that any business cannot sell more than a total of 32 tablets (in any combination) of Ibuprofen and/or Paracetamol.
Now whilst hard to depict in words, this action i feel is both obvious and justified. Many people disagree with me. Their argument is that, if someone was intent on committing suicide, they could still go to a variety of shops and buy 32 tablets from each. As such, they say, the ruling does not reduce suicide cases whatsoever, but instead makes it harder for ‘normal’ people to buy them. I disagree most wholeheartedly with this point of view: if someone has any doubt in their mind about whether they really want to go through with the act i.e. that they go out to do it in the heat of the moment, without thinking, then by putting these inconveniences in the way allows them more time to think.
Also of note today: over the past few weeks £3000 of alcohol has been stolen from the store. The culprits have been tracked down, and they aren’t quite who the Store Manager had thought them to be - the very builders renovating the store. Thus it seems, in order not to get on the bad side of the builders and be left with a half finished building, he isn’t going to take any action against them. Oh, he can pick on young members of staff like me, but not people his own age? This man has no balls.
