Money, money everywhere, but not a drop to drink.
Operations within Social Services would be so much faster and more efficient if the programs we make use of actually worked at any speed approaching reasonable I am being conservative here as it would be far too much to hope for them to be fast. In fact, on most occasions it would be terrific if they worked at all.
In our paperless office, which coincidentally is anything but, a single on-line network of information with an intuitive menu system for tracking down all the information and electronic forms we need would be highly beneficial. Yet I do not see it happening any time soon. Much of the local government and its departments are stuck in the past and pitchfork anything purporting to be change. The adoption of public access by a private-public partnership took enough persuading; it will be even harder to incorporate the same data systems in such an archaic and long-standing structure of government. Unfortunately I feel we will be using our independent and poorly functioning systems for a long time to come.
Heck, we have to save £40,000 per day so I doubt they would even consider an overhaul, despite the fact that the initial sunk cost would pay dividends in the long run.
